I am VERY VERY excited and happy that my registration has been processed. Didn't know until I called up a day later and they said I was already registered yesterday.

Sometimes, I feel as though I am still in my dreams. Just a few years ago, I was studying A Levels with my buddies and now, I have my own career.

The store's manager and my boss were very sweet and thoughtful. I received a pot of flowers- lilies, roses, carnation and orchids PLUS a GIGANTIC BALLOON! Receiving the balloon made me very very happy =D

I wanna go AGAIN!!!

Perhaps the next time, I will pick seats rather than standing with a bunch of people. Man, was it a battlefield or what? A lot of pushing, squashing, leg-tangling, feet stomping, elbow-knocking on the head and lips. Bled a little on the lips. Yea, you don't leave without sustaining a few injuries. And I feel like a midget even with my heels. Thank goodness I had two guy friends who are tall and decent sized to protect my godmother and me.

Nevertheless, I had fun screaming my lungs out! Aaaaahhhhhh.... And when Chester came close to us, I saw someone grabbing his hair. GRABBING his tuft of Mohawk hair -_- and he lets them! Seriously, everyone on the front touched/grabbed/hugged him... Oooohhh, I was SO CLOSEeeeeeeeeee yet so far T_T

I thought they will only promote their new album- A THOUSAND SUNS . They performed songs even from their first album - crawling, in the end, bleed it out and HEAPS of other previous good songs - numb, what I've done, new divide

During my stay, I've also visited my ex-colleague and Molly the fluffy one! The amazing thing about this workplace is that the boss allows Molly in here and the customers are so fond of her!!! She's adorable, isn't she?

Um... and I've specifically allocated a few hours for shopping spree *woot* Good bargains! Very very happy and satisfied Average $7/item. Bought 5 dresses, 3 skirts, 7 tops, 2 scarves!!! I'm not that greedy I was buying for friends as well!

This is perhaps one of the best fruit ice-cream I've ever tasted!!! OMG I am going to run to the Sunday market this week again to this divine divine divine mulberry ice-cream XD

It is almost the end of November *shrieks*

Just picking up from where I left, we had BBQ at the newly weds' house and then the following week, we attended the Company's Annual Party/ Christmas Dinner. Note the slash there because apparently someone in the company said that he/she does not celebrate Christmas so he/she can't go if the word party is present. -_- Go figure!

Another occasion was the word picnic. Do you know that it comes from the word pick a negro? Or something along that line? Again, someone pointed out that that word is offensive when we wanted to organise a BBQ picnic this weekend. I am speechless.

It was a far drive from the town. Madigans is actually quite a lovely place to dine. You look out the window and see ranges and trees. How awesomely different is that?

Mouthwatering pavlovas with passionfruit and a scoop of ice cream. This was the highlight dish of the night!

Colleagues swaying happily to the dance floor! Main dish was not very impressive except for the salad. They served cold food. Turkey, ham, potato salad, pear salad and bread.

I really like this picture because it captures the ranges behind us! Got that going out 'bush' feel. That's my supervisor and my pharmacy assistant.

My housemate and colleague wanted to test out their photography skills - potrait and scenery, so we decided to go to Simpson's Gap! In case you're wondering where the heck is that place? What does that even mean?

I have the most stressful and stress less holiday combined last week. But just before I explain about that, this is my pharmacist who recently got married. Absolutely happy for them. She was the pharmacist and he was an intern =) Lovely couple. What's best about mixed marriage is that you get to conduct the wedding twice! In the favour of each family's side.

I had been studying for exams for the past couple of weeks. It is the most dreaded oral exam of all. You are expected to deliver everything at this stage and to think of this is just purely stressful. Oh goodness! So I packed my luggage once again, boarded a 2 hours flight to Adelaide and sat for my oral exam the very next day.

As strange as this sounds, I really enjoyed the oral interview process. I um.. giggled quite a lot (I don't know what's gotten into me). Perhaps, I would never thought Mr J. Whitehouse will be assessing me =) it was great to see my ex-lecturer that day. I thought for a moment I was looking at a look-alike person, but he has indeed returned from England. Still as charming! Okay, back to the story, the oral exam wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. There were heaps of legislation scenarios otherwise it was pretty manageable.

And right after the interview, I headed off to the airport to fly to Melbourne for a 3-day conference. It was super fun although I did this alone.

For me, highlights of the event would be the great debate: selling evidence based medicine, counselling competition, talk on being an excellent communicators and the therapeutic update sessions.

In particular, I enjoyed this one session by an eye and ear specialist. His slides were interesting, talked about whether we should be referring or treating patients with presenting eye problems, but I find his aesthetic vessel even more interesting. Hahaha.... you hear me correctly. He is absolutely gorgeous, I find myself admiring him from far, thank goodness I didn't drool over my notepad. His CV is so so so impressive. Before the chairperson introduced him, I thought he was just another doctor with a handsome face. Man, he's a valedictorian, obtained PhD, author of some journals, plans to do a post-doctoral fellowship and he is a marathon runner, raising for charity.

Impressive or what? Oh, and the chairperson ended his introduction with this, "So that's Dr van Wijngaarden. He's my son-in-law, so be nice! ".

He was kind to share his new born baby's photo at the end of his slide wearing a funky sunglasses. Super adorable! =)

The young pharmacist of the year went out to an ex-S.I.T student ( a senior, few years ahead from me). Its a prestigious award and I'm very proud that a Malaysian won the title. Congratulations, VM!

Farewell

Jenna has worked in Aboriginal Congress for almost three years and she is a pure joy to work with. She has always been there to help me especially when I have difficulties listening to patient's name. I still do. And I really don't know what to do now, without her around.

The farewell party was held at one of our colleague's place and he stays out of town with his partner. There were hardly any streetlights and it was freaking scary to drive there at night. Imagine, you drive with your headlights on and you look back at your rear mirror, its pitch black. They have also put up signs of kangaroo crossing, and if you hit it, you need to ring to report the incident. The two sides of the road are just filled with long, tall grasses. Feels so remote.

The house was huge! I guess you call it a bungalow. And the poolside, simply romantic. Though this picture wouldn't do justice.

She is a terrific painter while our colleague was a brilliant photographer (his part time job).

A campfire!! Can you believe it? WOW Perhaps the only thing missing was we weren't barbecuing chicken or marshmellows.

Because we BROUGHT our home-cooked food! While I was happily snapping away, my preceptor put her arms around me and asked "Why are you taking pictures of food? I thought you have food in your home country?" >.<

Er.. because we appreciate food? My housemate bluntly said "Yes, and we also live on trees". LOL!

I'm really in a dilemma and I thought it would be an easy answer. If I agree, she will rock up a one year contract. If I don't, I know I will disappoint her. BADLY.

I am at the crossroad again. I loathe making decisions.

They played this song on the radio while I was at work one day.

And boy, oh boy, my awesome pharmacist tested her vocal skills as she was happily typing away while my mind was inundated with images of Armageddon clips while putting stocks away onto the shelf.

This song still gives me goosebumps after all these years. It is THAT good. The rhythm flows beautifully and the lyrics complements it so well.

I cried buckets when I watched the movie. The ending was terribly sad. Those who have watched it would know what I mean.

I can't choose this song for my wedding day. I think I'll make a mess on my makeup.

Came across this quote 'The world is your classroom' and I cannot agree more.

No matter where I am, I know I will still be a student. And learning new things makes me alive. I carved my path when I was in high school. I knew what I wanted, many of the goals I managed to achieve with much blessings and tremendous support. And what they say is true about being a student in comparison to working. I miss being a student. SO MUCH. I love being in control with my own time. Not dictated by some people. Why do I get this feeling that part of me is lost. Maybe this is just my first year of working experience. Still in the transition, perhaps.

I like to think that every time I go to my workplace, this is not work, it's fun! After all this is my passion, and I have chosen this path. Whether or not this will be a better life guaranteed, I don't know. But if you do something that you don't like doing, you will never be happy and rich.

Never like the idea of adding a year to my age since I turned 22 years old. To tell the truth, I sometimes lose count on how old I am! I tend to add a year older than I am.

Can't help but reminisce on the ones I used to celebrate with my piggy clan in uni. Everyone has of course, moved on with their lives. I truly had so much fun with them, and wished I could turn back the good old times.

I have e-mails/sms from the least expected people - ex-housemate, ex-colleagues, and one which I am very happy is from my one and only sibling. He created a poem for me and it was one that I got me laughing fits. The cheeky fella really made my day. And of course, from those people whom I expect (Haha.. I am so demanding), they all remembered to call =D

We ate out a few days before but on the actual day, it was raining heavily so decided to stay home. My beloved godmother made delectable curry mee and her famous cold roll while my housemate made wanton. Felt so happy as I was very touched with their homecooked meals.

Appreciate what I received - thoughtful cards from mom, friends, beautiful flower from colleagues, cakes from housemate and preceptor and more dinner treats when I get back! Yay!

On another note, I flew back to Adelaide a couple of weeks and I never felt soooooooo GOOD!! Had my craving for Boost juice and yay for shopping! Managed to grab a few dresses and accessories while I was there. Love going for bargain hunts thanks to Miss Jo, my shopping guru! =D

Have been down on the floor mostly helping out in the shop because we are so short staffed. Am loving it because of so much customer interaction and am doing dual role here - assistant and intern. 90% of customers here are happy, cherry type while the remainder are just plain rude, obnoxious. But whoever they are and how they treat you in the end, I learn to smile and say 'thank you and have a nice day' even to the grumpiest customer. Am on the training to increase my EQ. Hopefully!

And jeez, I never knew so much talking is involved in an assistant's work. No wonder they keep going to the staff kitchen area to have a break!

I was rotated at another site for my work today and some time around in the afternoon, I picked up a call. The thing is I RARELY pick up calls because we have one person in our department who deals with all incoming calls. So happened that the phone was ringing for quite a bit and other colleagues were busy, so I picked up!

So it was a hospital pharmacist on the other line and was wanting to know the list of medications that the particular patient was taking and whether if she was compliant in taking them. Both of us were all speaking in a very SERIOUS and PROFESSIONAL manner throughout the conversation.

And at the end of it after she asked my name for reference and I asked hers in return ( and where she's calling from), I REALISED that she was my ex-housemate and I KNOW she works in that particular hospital! Very very SURPRISED! Totally didn't expect it. I shrieked in excitement and laughed so loud that people around me were looking. . Gosh... talking about coincidence!!! I don't rotate to the site often. Calling on that specific day! I don't usually pick up calls. Whoa!

We were talking very casually with our Malaysian accent after the discovery and had a quick catch up on things. My colleague who was beside me heard it all and was laughing spreading the incident to others (my 360 change in conversation demeanor). =)

Aahhh.. just in a month's time, I will be able to see something like this! Yay!

Attack of sweet potato balls with minced meat fillings! *Nom nom nom Chewy! Me likey XD

Our masterchef. She kick-ass in cooking! For the past few days with us, she's been cooking hearty breakfast (toasted bread, sausages, fried eggs, baked beans), sending us to work by car, sending lunch and preparing dinner for us. Never felt so 'homely' for such a long long time. If I were a boy, I would definitely make her mine! LOL... She recently tied the knot a few weeks ago =)

My favourite food in the whole wide world! Yippeee! Was made with love by another fantastic cook! But didn't eat it there and then, co'z I fell sick! Had a cold/fever/sorethroat/runnynose/blocknose bla bla bla.

I need to get well soon for my health promotion project. Am all geared up for it. Freaking excited at the same time. Oh, please don't rain on that day !! *crosses fingers

I love going to training sessions - and I only go to the ones where they serve dinner! (okay, all the ones here do cater light dinner so far!) I am a piggie like that!

So far I've attended the asthma, Hamilton's skin and recently the Schwarzkopf's hair training session. The hair department is totally unrelated to my field but I thought I just go for the food! XD which turned out quite lovely. Heaps of fruits ( I love my strawberries!) and your standard assorted sandwiches, biscuits, tea, coffee and juice. Very healthy choices compared to the previous Hamilton where they served a lot of fried food- springrolls etc, dips, pastries which were all undeniably yummy, but they are artery clogging !! Ek >.< Okay, i shouldn't complain. Be happy you are served with something!

If there was one take away message from the hair training session, it would be that the trainer highly recommends putting on 'leave-in conditioner' treatment. Usually you do this after shower before drying your hair and you can do this in the morning when you wake up finding your hair all frizzy. He says that it gives you that extra gloss and shine as well as helping to nourish your hair. Ever thought why straightened hair look extra glossy and shiny? He explained the basic structural component of the hair - and interestingly the key to shininess is to ensure the cuticle of our hair is flat (cuticle = outer most layer of the hair). The hair straighter does exactly this! It compresses the cuticle, so there's no scaly outer surface.

Lady luck seems to be on my side, which I'm obviously very very happy (I've don't think I ever won any lucky draw) =) Previously, I was given a huge tub of Hamilton body wash (which was really good because this means I don't need to fork out $$ to buy) after answering a random question and this time round, I received a hamper containing hair product goodies! There were 6 bottles of shampoos, 6 bottles of conditioners, 2 tubs of hair mask, 2 leave-in moisturiser products, 3 small tubes of hair repair serum and 2 hairsprays!! It was a lucky draw!!!

Unfortunately, I could only use so much on my hair (I've got short hair, remember?), so decided to give almost all of them away. Share the love =)

Beanie Festival

No, I wasn't aware with such an event and apparently, it is only held in Central Australia =D. After much persuasion by my preceptor (none of us wanted to go because we don't wear beanies!) , so we went! The beanies that people designed came from all parts of Australia and they were beautiful, and some were creatively bizzare (hanging bees, huge flower-like top, protruding horns, strawberry with the stem). Quite coincidently, it was almost closing when we got there BUT there was a playreading event after that. So we went for it! Didn't know what playreading was all about but my conclusion it is basically reading out a play without acting out. There were no costumes changing whatsoever. Perhaps that's why is free, so am not complaining! Oh, I must say that although there were only two actresses in the whole play, the story line was simple yet touching. It talks about relationship, struggles, secrets between Anangu and Western women. Head full of love is the title of the play and it is simply amazing how they weave beanies into a lovely story.

Mike, my preceptor's husband is a super talented photographer. Recently been to his newly opened gallery and his pictures were stunningly magnificent. To me, pictures are even more beautiful and meaningful when they have a story behind it. And yes, there were stories in his pictures and they link together as you walk along the gallery (he placed snakes on the floor and asked us to follow them). I thought it was a cool idea!

Freezing cold in here. And all of us think that it will be HOT in here during winter. It is unfortunately colder than Adelaide...the night can dip to -3 degrees celcius. I remember going to work one day and my hands were numb and painful even with gloves on. Oh, and I was cycling. Gosh. I wish I had a car! >.<

Why do we have craving at such odd times?

It was a Sunday morning and while jogging, I had a sudden craving for a cake. Weird, huh? I should be concentrating in what I was doing, but I can't help it =(

Yet, I didn't wanna buy the standard chocolate mud cake or butter cake you get from Woolies or Coles. So, I made my own! which actually turned out quite lovely!

Had my first piece and grabbed another piece before I suddenly remembered to whip out my camera =)

Thanks to my dear cousin, this is her recipe! Enjoy and let me know how you go with it or share with me if you have a wonderful recipe too!

Delicious Carrot Cake

2 cups of plain flour
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of corn oil
1.5 tsp of baking soda
2 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of salt
2 tsp of cinnamon
4 eggs
2 cups of grated carrots
1/2 cup ground almonds
1 handful of walnuts, chopped
1/2 can (220g) of crushed pineapple, well drained

1) Preheat oven at 180 C
2) Combine everything - leave out flour, eggs and oil
3) Add oil and stir vigorously
4) Add eggs one at a time and combine well after each addition
5) Add flour in 2 batches
6) Bake for 45-50 minutes

Cream Cheese frosting

1 tsp vanilla essence
250g Philly cream cheese (room temperature)
125g butter (room temperature)
1 cup of icing sugar

1) Beat them together

I've used brown sugar (for the cake) which says low GI for a change. Not sure if that makes any difference but what I noticed is that the outcome was not sweet (which is good from my friends' point of view who are on diet, so they won't blame me from spoiling their plans!) , and I guess healthier too! The cream cheese frosting does the sweetening job which enhances the flavour of the carrot cake. What I really like about this recipe is that nice level of moisture.

I reckon grating is the most painful and time-consuming part of the job. I got little cuts here and there on both of my hands after that exercise. In my next attempt, I'll probably add more grated carrots (make it 2.5-3 cups), vanilla extract, more toasted walnuts and perhaps substitute ground almonds for hazelnuts.

... is a training restaurant . Cool, hey? I've never been to one! It is always interesting to observe what people do in the hospitality sector. Oh, and in this particular restaurant, they were so many young staffs!! (Duh?!) They all look about 16 years old!

I burst out laughing when I read this! I know I shouldn't considering that I am a trainee too.

... training environment, meals and beverages may take longer to be served (oh yea, it took almost an hour each to serve the entree, main and dessert), accidents may occur (I found this hilarious! but thankfully nothing happened. I wished I could say that in my field but obviously I can't co'z people can die/sue ) and course lecturers may feel the need to correct students (witnessed how the lecturers taught them to pour wine into glasses) ...

Entree: Cheese Souffle -slightly burnt, didn't puff up but I still enjoyed it

Comment: Nicely executed grilled fish . More importantly, fish was fresh. Not quite sure what sauce it was - Champagne Beurre Blanc but it was alright, not quite as tasty. Loved the vegetable frittata underneath

The highlight of the night was the dessert! I had warm apple & cinnamon pudding. Simply delectable! Especially with that serve of ice-cream. Everything taste nice with it =)

Consumed with so much workload, sometimes I forget what it is like out there. Going out for a dinner was a good break.

I miss my family.

THIS, everyone is the famous ULURU (Ayers Rock).

It is a HUGE HuuuUUUGGGEEEE rock (9km around the base) and interestingly, two-third of the rock is beneath the ground. As you know, the Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of the continent of Australia. Uluru is their sacred site with its own spiritual and cultural significance.

Do you know that it is listed in the World Heritage site by UNESCO?

It is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Although I have seen it so many times in the postcards, it is a sight to behold in real life. Pictures don't do justice- it is something you need to see with your own natural set of lenses.

Our tour guides gave us a lot of insight and told many interesting stories/myths associated with certain markings around the rock. They did mention however that what they know currently is very limited based around the fact that it was considered too sacred to pass on to outsiders =(

Just so you're wondering with this picture, I almost SWALLOWED a fly during my course of quenching my thirst. EeeeKkk! I know I know, previously in my nose and now the mouth, gosh...

We got back to the bus once it got darker and along the way, we saw the silhouette of Kata-Tjuta

The sight took my breath away (Photos don't capture well, at least for mine) and both of us were carried away dreaming about romantic thoughts.

So, there it is...

Kings Canyon, they say is just as beautiful. I'm making that my next odyssey, probably after my major exams. ;D

Part 1 of an AWESOME trip

The recent trip to Melbourne with my girlfriend was TERRIFIC! I had a chance to meet up with my sibling, who got there a month ago for his Masters studies and got to know his housemates who were madly adorable!

Coming out from a little town into a big city , I was totally in awe with everything. SERIOUSLY EVERYTHING! Everything seemed to multiply by 100 or more- the number of people, the buildings, cars, traffic lights, restaurants etc. Suddenly I felt like I have lost touch with this other side of the world. Eh hem... exactly like the feeling of the kampung girl.

So, on our first day, we just hang around in town. After settling with some visa and mobile issues, we visited the Melbourne Museum.

Check this out, some famous person discovered lithium for use in mania MANY MANY years ago and his writings are still around (though no strength was mentioned)

Next on our list was the Great Ocean Road tour! I was rather excited to see beautiful sandy beaches again, understandably there's none at where I was. The drive along the road was scenic (tip given by a friend: sit on the left side of the bus). The sky and sea were remarkably blue. That really brought back fond memories with my university friends in Adelaide. I miss Glenelg beach and the company.

The highlight of the trip was when we reach the end of the destination - The Twelve Apostles . Simply AMAZING!. I wasn't aware of its existence until my girlfriend told me about this trip! Totally took my breath away when I saw it with my own eyes. Definitely a must to see! Oh, there are only 8 left now. One of them tumbled a few years ago. The salt and pepper shape was my favourite one of all! They looked like twins (middle of the picture)

On the very next morning, we were all geared up for some shopping! Victoria market was our first stop before hopping onto a train to Boxing Hill with bro's housemates to get Chinese groceries. You have no idea how elated I was when I went to huge Asian grocery area. I bought almost $100 worth of groceries and happily stuffed them in my luggage XD

Our last day at Melbourne was spent hanging out with friends. We met up with my high school friend and another friend. This high school friend of mine is as humble and friendly as he always is. I'm just so glad to meet up with him after all these years. And so, we hopped from one restaurant to another and to another. We had tea (chocolate rather!) at San Churro. My girlfriend who is a BIG chocolate fan enjoyed herself VERY MUCH! Even the bitter ones.

Oh, and that reminds me of a recent incident where my housemate offered me her favourite chocolate. When I took a bite, to my horror it was SO BITTER! Aarrgghh... Quickly, I helped myself with a large glass of water and swallowed it down with two gulps. She looked at me with disbelief and told me that I would never have her chocolate again. Waste my money, don't know how to appreciate good stuff, she said. We burst out laughing in the end.

After chocolate, we went to another dessert place- Brunetti. More sweet stuff, pretty cakes =)

And then, DINNER time!! He brought us to this special Asian fusion place. Loved the awesome layout. The food was surprisingly good too!!!

What better way to call it a day other than sweet supper (I sure hope our pancreas were secreting enough insulin throughout the day!) ? We went to the famous Max Brenner and we all sat on the little 'padang' opposite enjoying the cool breeze while sipping on our hot chocolate beverage. Slurps! YUM.

So, that's 4 days in Melbourne for me! Obviously we did more stuff. I want to go back there again because there are so many places that I've yet to explore. I would definitely like to see the Twelve Apostles again. Anyone wants to join me on the next trip? I better start saving again! XD

is not held every week or every fortnight or in any consistent manner. We wouldn't have any clue until they advertise it on the television! Strange, huh?

So when my colleague told me that there would be a market this coming Sunday, I made a mental note to make sure I go there and see how its like.

In general, nothing fancy, just food stalls and souvenirs.

But the highlight was that there was lion dance performance! Cool, eh? Never imagined that they would have it here. Yay! Go Asians XD

Oh, let me amuse you with my unfortunate event at the market. If you haven't know this, there are flies everywhere in here. EVERYWHERE! No matter where you go, your hands must be switched to the swatting mode orelse they crawl on your face, which is incredibly annoying. I walked from the house to the market under the sweltering weather and naturally, I needed to catch my breath. And as I took a couple of deep breaths, a CRAZY fly WENT into my nose. IN MY NOSE!

Ewww...disgusting, I know.

What's worse was I didn't realize until I felt something moving a few minutes later, which then struck me before frantically searching for a tissue paper. Gosh... it was traumatic for me. Thank goodness for my body's first line defense in my nose. Or else it gets into my lungs how?

No surprise that I held my index finger under my nose throughout the day after that incident.

Missing CNY

for my 2^nd time in a row. New year is ALWAYS very meaningful to me because I have so many fun and good memories. Also, an opportunity to only see some of my distant relatives/cousins. I really miss the boisterous environment at my parents’ hometowns. Especially with the blaring CNY music, exciting conversation with aunties and uncles, ang paus and of course, my beloved CNY cookies- prawn crackers, kueh ka pet, pineapple tart and Jolly Shandy! Huuhuu...

On New Year’s Eve, I managed to cook several dishes for the reunion dinner- SIX to be exact! Though I ambitiously wanted to pull off eight, but, by the time I was about to do the fifth dish, I was exhausted already.

And so, the dinner consisted of tomato fish, steamed egg, spicy black bean prawn, ABC soup, mixed vegetables, tofu with chicken mushrooms.

Yummy, delicious dessert-I loved how my friend beautifully plate up the strawberries and cubed rock melon. SWEET...

As you know, RED is the auspicious colour. In the morning, I realized that my new dress wasn't red enough so I quickly did my nails just to add more 'redness' to my whole presentation. I seriously follow the traditional rules of wearing new clothes and wearing red, in particular the first day of new year.

On the first day of NEW YEAR, we had our ‘yum cha’ session. Guess what we had? Teh tarik and since we haven’t got our CNY cookies, we substituted with chips -_- Well, at least that’s something close.

And funnily, we made SUSHI (my dear friend’s suggestion) in the afternoon. We had green tea hot drink with it. Then, for tea, we had delicious smoothie to quench our thirst.

I’m VERY glad that I am not totally alone on this special festive =) But still I miss my dear relatives and fooooooooooooooooooood.

I have underestimated this place, seriously. You would think that social life would go downhill, but apparently not! There are so many colleagues in here and you can easily lose track who is who. The turnover rates for staffs are also high. Just only 2 weeks living in here, I attended 2 farewells, and this week alone, there’s another two coming. Oh, and did I mention that this town is pretty small. You just bump into them, like almost everywhere? For example I went jogging the other Sunday and I met my preceptor. Did grocery shopping saw a few familiar faces. Hmm... privacy is definitely limited here.

I had a WONDERFUL time at a recent Saturday gathering. The host was a Malaysian GP and she is super down-to-earth. Her Caucasian husband is amazing! An anaesthetist, multilingual – Italian, French, Japanese and a very good COOK!!! What’s even more shocking is when his eldest son came up to me and greeted, “Ni hao! Wo shi Wu Kong”. I was too surprised to say anything back. His Mandarin intonation was far FAR better than mine. Honestly, I felt quite embarrassed of myself T_T Huuhuu... He’s only 7 years old.

The journey to her house (aka mansion) left me in awe. She lives 45 minutes away from the town. All 6 of us hopped into her truck and took us there. Along out way, we passed this place called Honeymoon Gap. A big gap between two humungous rocks. She said it was a romantic hang out place for couples to watch the sunset =)

Although her place was rather isolated, at the same time I felt total serenity and calmness. They had two horses as naturally lawn mowers! Cute, hey?

Food brings everyone together! Housemates made Nasi Lemak! Yums!

I think this probably happens in this state- there were so many annoying flies. I couldn’t eat properly with one hand frantically trying to fan them away. Grrrggrrhh... Kacau saja.

Interestingly, this place houses many insects! Stink bugs, is a famous one. I will take a picture of it the next time to show you how it looks like. It is a pretty emerald green in colour but don’t be fooled by it. If you step on it, they emit smelly stuff as self-defence and you’ll stink badly. That’s how it got its name from.

One of the guests is a dance teacher. He specializes in Tango and told us about its history as well as revealed secrets to the seemingly difficult footwork! Really enjoyed watching the Tango performance and we joined in to have some fun! What a good way to end the day!

All of us loved this air-conditioned thingy. Instead of the ones that you normally see up on the ceiling, this comes from below. Can do the Marilyn Monroe pose! So syiok! Hahaha...

That night, there were no clouds and it was dark enough to see the shining stars and a bright half moon. Although stars were not as sparkly as the ones I saw in the Kangaroo Island trip (South Australia back in December 2008), I was glad I had the opportunity to see them again.

is probably not as 'ulu' as I'd imagined. However, I'm still in the adjusting phase, trying to settle in as much as I can.

I didn't notice the sky at all while I was taking this picture because I had my sunglasses on and my focus was the aeroplane that I came out from. Looking back at this picture struck me in awe! The white fluffy clouds against the brilliant blue sky looked more like a painting to me!

It rained heavily the day before I arrived and continued for two more days. Along my way to the town, I saw many children and adults happily playing around Todd River.

I couldn't appreciate the whole concept like why they seem so excited about it. So after much explanation from my preceptor, it's usually a dry river bed and according to my housemates whom have been here for a year , they haven't seen the river flow before. So this is a very SPECIAL occasion!! Hence, you can imagine why people here were exhilarated when the river started flowing as of the following short clip (there were more people at the bridge area)

There's still some water around for now. But it dries up so fast and it saddens me everytime I cross this bridge. They say, sooner later you will see a very barren area, all brown and red =(

Just digressing, I've cut my hair three times within a month!! The first time I looked like lala mui, the second time was for my graduation and then I figured that I needed to cut even shorter co'z it will be crazily hot in here. At least I save on shampoo and conditioner =)

It’s the BRAND New Year, 2010!!! Happy New Year peeps!

Have been busy packing (and repacking...grrrggrh) for the past few days and in just a few hours, I’ll be off to the bush.

I've got so much mixed feeling about going away.

Happy/Excited because my brain can no longer be idle (Been holiday-ing for the past 2 months..Wee!). At the new place, I’ll be mentally & environmentally challenged. Oh, and of course, I'll officially be receiving $$$ XD though not a registered one yet.

Sad because I’m leaving the city and my hotel-like apartment =( I’ll miss Chinatown! Apprehensive because I've never been there! The most 'kampung' area I've been to is Taiping.

Just digressing a little bit, I was just thinking of my recent trip to Sydney and I never had so much FUN with so many relatives at one go! It feels like Chinese New Year where everyone from everywhere meet up at a place. I missed CNY with family twice already. This year is going to be my third, unfortunately. It was so good to meet up with four of my dear cousins and cousins’ cousin (Do you call them second cousin?) - cracking up jokes, teasing each other, girly talks, playing Guitar Hero ( I’m horrible at it! I got a BOO from the crowd =S, Wii, taking heaps of frivolous photos etc etc.

Okay, on the more interesting part –FOOD! The Christmas dinner that my aunt and uncle prepared was just superbly scrumptious - especially the turkey! They roasted it with bacon pieces on top of the turkey =)

But what I really REALLY like most of all was my uncle’s Mashed Potatoes! I even licked the bowl, ok!... It was different from the ones that I make. The texture was soft, creamy and flavourful! YUM!!!

Summary of events: A day before Christmas, we travelled to Hunter Valley for their vineyards, and wine & cheese tasting. We went for a bus tour around Sydney & the famous Bondi Beach on Christmas day and on Boxing day, we went for apricot & plum plucking!

I find it very fascinating to see little children frolicking in the beach. Miss Cousin in the picture (middle) is trying to make some mochi balls. Master Cousin on the far right is trying to bury himself -_- See the extra pair of hands? I suspect that's Mr Cousin's. Two years ago, I couldn't understand what fun there was with playing SAND! Sand = dirt. You'll get chided if you ever play sand in the garden. I think I'm already falling in love with the beach slowly. More so since I'll be living in the desert in the coming months.

Long time no BLOG!!!....

Since coming back to Adelaide, life was huff and puff, nevertheless its been a whirlwind of delightful activities!

Bringing my family around Adelaide was great fun! Made the right decision of booking a lovely serviced apartment for them rather than cramming in my tiny place. I could guess that my sibling really like the Aussie style, from Boost juice to the mouth-watering ravioli, wood-oven pizza etc *double slurps*

OoooO...My Graduation...I had MARVELOUS time with family and friends!

I can't believe the day finally came after slogging through for 4 years. As I was in preparation to receive my parchment, I began a recollection of memories. When I was in my first year, the day I complete the course seemed eternity. Entering my sophomore year, I forged closer bonds with piggies and other classmates. Probably that’s because I held the loan-shark position XD .Third year was like a roller-coaster. Having to adjust to the new environment, ogling cute ang-moh lecturers ;D, having to study new subjects, feeling disappointed, doing all sorts of fun activities to release stress like going to beaches, attending a pub-crawl event, hosting & attending heaps of birthday parties etc. I reckon it would be the most challenging of all the four years. There was immense fear but we were all in this together. I wouldn’t say entering the fourth year was a breeze. It took hard work too and I gained so much more insight of my choice of career.

Walking up on stage with my gown and mortarboard gave me aura of accomplishment. I had witnessed my brother and many of my cousins going up on stage, and I am so glad now its my turn =)

I know this is just only the BEGINNING.

Here's a toast to all graduates of the course. I'll never forget those who has been there for me and show their support. Okay, this is gonna be like an Oscar speech so skip this part, if you like. My family and lovely aunties and uncles, of course. Thank you for your weekly phone calls to see if I'm surviving...=) Your constant care and concern are deeply appreciated. Thank you piggies for your company. Loved that we could lose it all out when we're chatting. We're all ridiculously wacky bunch of students, don't you think? Oink!

To my beautiful friends - Von, Lings, Cel for your support and love. I loved the balloons, Von. Mom said it was a brilliant idea! Could spot my family easily amidst the crowd. Ta! Also to many wonderful classmates - Zoe, Yvonne, Melody, Loga, TL, Cath, HS, SY, HI, LK, Alex, Patrick & other peeps you know who you are =) , car-pool mates -CK & TJ and ex-housemates KK & MK, who have helped me in my studies or in every other way, thank you so much.

Day Trip

Though plans of going to Indonesia with family didn't work out as I hoped, but I went elsewhere- headed up to Genting Highland with Lings ! Was really looking forward for this trip because this means play Play PLAY!! I like going there anyway co'z it brings back a lot of sweet childhood memories with my cousins and their familes. I miss being a kid.

I thought we were pretty good in conquering most of the good rides. The waiting part took most of the time! I've always wanted to go on the Solero Shot ride and I did!! Felt more comforting knowing that you're not alone. The ride was AWESOME!! For a few seconds when they drop you,its as if the butt had detached from the seat. Felt like free falling. Darn scary but the after effect feeling is so good! Another ride which also pumped heaps of adrenaline was Corkscrew - the double loop roller coaster. Super FUN!

I can play and play and forget about eating at all. Felt so bad after that, co'z dragged Lings ride after ride >.< We both loved the Spinner ride! It was like flying without wings.

An educational and colourful journey of chocolate-making

As I looked back on these past years, I've realised we've grown so much and no doubt continue to grow in terms of knowledge and wisdom. Sometimes I've even forgotten our age and I thank you for reminding me (24, hey?) Thanks for putting up with my silliness and naive thinking. Here's sending you my love and whatever the future holds, our todays make the memories of tomorrow.

TVB & Movies

Have been watching too much TVB drama lately that I thought I needed to get some dose of English-speaking movies. So far, I've watched the Christmas Carol and am planning to save 2012 to watch it with my lovely cousins. One day, I was bored after shoppping, so I thought hey, let's catch the Twilight Saga - New Moon. Contrary to what other people have commented that they don't like/uninterested in vampire shows, or that these shows are for lame people or whatever, I thought it has an interesting plot (though illogical at some parts). I caught the first one - "Twilight" (thanks to my ex-housemate's influence) and no, I didn't fall for Edward Cullen (the main character), instead my eyes were set on Dr.Carlisle ( Edward's father)...

He's the MAN in the first movie! I adore his character in the story because he has a solid meaningful role - to save mortal's life (in comparison to Edward who just falls in love with Bella and wishes to protect her, I don't see any significant role beyond that. That's just my own opinion). But to my disappointment, he appeared only ONCE in New Moon =(

But hey, there was a BIGGER surprise.

I would never imagine how this guy - Jacob Black (who has a crush on Bella)...

I nearly choked on my popcorn when he took his shirt off to help with Bella's wound (if you have seen both the movies, you'll be shocked with his transformation) And I couldn't help laughing out loudly, listening to other spectators commenting behind my seat "Tengok tu abang- ada six packs! " "Cium dia la... Allah, kenapa dia tak nak" ROFL Yes, the movie theater was not quiet at all throughout the movie.

Oh, by the way his only 17 and so buff! Never saw that coming...

Loving my lecturers...

Cheeky as I am, I've got names for my lecturers! Wanna hear?!

Mr. Phillips,A a.k.a 'Leng Chai teacher'- I remember vividly when we entered our third year in Adelaide, everyone was talking about him! Everyone!! Sure enough, he's the Prince Charming among the lecturers. I bet other girls were secretly in their 'la-la land' rather than concentrating while he was lecturing. Quite unfortunate for me, I didn't feel the same way as I loathed him for misleading us after one exam last year. But during the counselling sessions this year, I found him very amiable and funny! And he's rather precise in picking up our weaknesses, and I credit him for that.

Dr. Ward,M a.k.a 'The Brainy' - Molecular Chemical Basis of Therapeutics (MCBT) is his forte. But it seemed to me that he could well teach other subjects such as Pharmacology and Applied Therapeutics with his broad knowledge. I'm sure we can recall "that guy" in our class, the one who was smarter than the rest of us. I think in his year, it was him. He's got layers- some may perceive him as obnoxious but if you speak personally speak to him, he is willing to share his knowledge and wisdom. Surprise, surprise is his way of expressing his sarcasm. And if you notice closely when he smiles, he sure melts people's heart. He's the man! Haha...

Dr. Sorich, M a.k.a 'The Cute Clicker'- *I can hear girls screaming at their top of lungs* He DOES NOT look like a lecturer AT ALL!!!!!!! He blends in so well with the students as depicted on the picture on top. Plus, he's Sooooooo... CUTE! He's married anyway. But that's not my point. I really liked his lectures because he does it interactively (like a game show where you click your answers) by setting questions and answers (which were hilarious! Some weren't related to the questions at all), not the conventional taking notes type of class. And his lecture notes were very neat and organized. I like!! And he's CUTE. Okay, did I say that again? His blue eyes are so captivating. I remember speaking to him about my potential thesis project last year, and I could not recall a single word he said. That's right, my mind drifted elsewhere. *Ahem*

Dr. Des, W a.k.a 'The PK expert'- If you have any questions about pharmacokinetics or anything associated with it, he's the guru! And don't you ever dare say that we dont' ever need to look at PK or a drug's chemical sructure considering that we've got out therapeutic facts. I have high respect for this man. Seriously. I find him very caring because he looks after S.I.T-ians very well. Truly appreciate that.

Dr. Ivanka a.k.a 'The cutie'- This teacher is adorable. =) She's petite, but don't let her fool you. With her unique experiences combined with ample knowledge, she's an amazing teacher. I've gained so much input from her tutorials and for the first time, I really enjoyed Medication Management tutorials. It was interactive and enjoyable. I had heaps fun, laughing out loud when Dr. Ivanka and Dr. Wiese pair up as tutors in the counselling session. They're incredibly funny because they tease each other.

Dr. Wiese a.k.a 'The Nice One' - He gives good advice and he is very straight forward. That's what I like about him. Unlike some other teachers who beat around the bush. *grrr* During one of the counselling sessions last year, he spoke so softly that I almost leaned on him. Nevertheless, he is very generous and his words of wisdom in the last lecture made me teary.Boohoo.

Yep, so these teachers are the highlights for me. Don't think I'll ever forget them...

I woke up to the the sounds of children shrieking and lots of noise and movement outside my window yesterday. 7.30am-which child wakes up at this ungodly hour? And this is what I saw when I went out 30 minutes later:

Cool, hey? Swarms of 3-10 year old kiddies, babies, moms and dads were sitting along both sides of the pavement on the main street in Adelaide. I'm not sure what was the event.. hmm,Children's Day? I thought that was in October.

Not to mention, it was sweltering hot as well. I wonder if parents have put enough sunblock for them? Skin cancer incident is extremely worrying in here! Haha.. some kid coloured the metal thingy there! Looks like a football now!

PS: Just received my IELTS result and it was beyond what I'd expected. Overall, I've received a score of 8 and above for each section , but my most 'bangga' ones were listening and reading - 9 out of 9. Sounds absurd right? I am suspicious if the examiners were marking them correctly though. Even so, I ain't complaining. XD

Yay! One DOWN.

Now for the ultimate > FINAL > LAST EXAMINATION test. Typing it out itself feels overwhelming already. Gosh, I can't believe it as I'm approaching the end of my full time job in 2 weeks time.

Boo.

Ever wonder what people do when they are stressed or demotivated or 'sien ah'? While some prefer to go shopping or blast their music loud or eat a tub of Nutella or ice-cream , I always find myself in the kitchen - a therapeutic place for me to de-stress. To cook up a storm! XD

So, today I decided to get creative and made fresh buttermilk pancakes before burying my nose in books/lecture notes!

My flipping techniques are terrible! I blame the heavy non-stick fry pan. How to flip when its so heavy, eh? * in denial - no skill tsk tsk*

Berries are DELICIOUS (love em'), but my housemate, Ann begs to differ. So, I came out with 2 different plates. In the end, while I was taking photos, I realised that I made one kiddi version, the other adult version XD Haha...

A scoop of creamy vanilla ice-cream would make this dish complete =)

PS: Can't wait for family and friends re-union happening very soon.

I read the cue card:

If there was one thing you want to change in your life, what would it be?

How would it benefit you?

Will it be difficult to make this change?

...And then, I was asked to speak for 2 minutes about it.

I wished the examiner could have listened to my sincere reply, something which will come deep down from my heart. But, this was an examination setting. If I spoke my mind, I would not be able to answer the next 2 questions. And I can well predict that I won't be able to score very well in it.

*sigh*

But I thought this was a brilliant question. Something which I haven't been asked for a long time.

Yay! The opportunity to upload pictures of my recent adventure, finally! Just completed my IELTS test this morning. It was amazing to see swarms of people with red or green passports in their hands! International students unite. LOL!

Anyway, last Sunday was Cheesey-licious DAY! There was a variety of cheese and wine stalls from different places-Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Mclaren Vale etc . Afterall, SA is famous for plethora of grapevines XD I should go visit sometime soon. Wait..what was I doing here for almost 2 years? *deep in thought*

I really like brie out of all the cheeses. Its soft, creamy and smooth. The blue cheese..GOSH!! Too potent... too potent for my liking. The hard cheese, I am sure you are familiar with parmesan, pecorino. Jo and I tried the matured (3 years!!) pecorino cheese. Hahaha.. she said it tasted like sponge. LOL! Zoe and I thought that the Tasmanian Red Square's (washed rind) cheese is very nice tasting too!

Poh Poh's expertise in glass handling. Check out her Marilyn Monroe's tattoo! If there was an Elvis Presley one, I reckon she would have that all over her hands and legs =)

Tried to trick Ann that I was drinking wine. It backfired!

It was really great to know that there are so many different types of cheese out there. Definitely a good introductory place because I know I can never buy so many different types of cheese and do sample tasting. If I hadn't know how blue cheese tasted like, I might puchase a block out of curiosity, tasted a bite and left it in the fridge and never touch it again-oh, perhaps pass that to Jo piggy. Heeehee (She helps me with my wine, everytime! Such good friend) Yes, cheese is not CHEAP in here by the way >.<

QUM=Love

I was glad I attended the morning lecture today. It was indeed an inspiring talk by a very noted and superior fellow who is in charged of approving subsidised medicine use in this country. I loved how he emphasized and encouraged us to put fire in our belly and asking ourselves this question when we join the workforce in a few months time - "Have I made a difference in someone's life today?"

And how he used the analogy of love to Quality Use of Medicine! That is brilliant! I'm into QUM ever since I attended my recent placement this year. Thanks to my preceptors who constantly inject me with loads of enthusiasm. But it is a hard concept to grasp, really. It's like asking- What is love? Define Love.

Love is intrinsic, he said. It is expressed through care, concern, respect, TLC etc. And so is QUM.

Ok ok... Should be studying assiduously for my oral test tomorrow. Look at what I'm doing now. Yikes!
